Basingstoke-based gas safety watchdog CORGI, has scooped an industry ‘Oscar’ for its’ commitment to promoting safe driving among its 167-fleet of car users.
CORGI was named winner of the ‘Fleet Risk Management’ category at the recent Fleet News Awards, in recognition of the significant time and resource the company invests in raising awareness of key health and safety driving practices.
Committed to leading standards in safety, CORGI has always considered driver safety of the utmost importance and employs an independent auditor to carry out a risk assessment of each driver. However, it was procedures such as the regular updates of the CORGI car user guide, six-monthly licence checks and a strict ‘casual’ car user policy, where drivers using private vehicles for business can only complete a maximum 40-mile round-trip, which secured the watchdogs’ success.
Company secretary Philippa Caine, accepted the Award on behalf of CORGI from Sir Trevor MacDonald, at a glittering dinner at London’s Grovesnor House Hotel. The evening was a celebration of the hard work, expertise and innovation that drives Britain’s fleet industry and keeps UK businesses on the move.
Awards judges praised CORGI for its’ highest principles of health and safety and compliance and congratulated Philippa for her own unparalleled safety record. More/…

Philippa said: “I feel very proud to accept this award on behalf of the CORGI fleet team, as well as all CORGI staff, who adhere to our car safety policies. To be recognised as a leader in fleet risk management standards is truly a feather in CORGI’s cap and we will continue to keep driver safety policy high on the corporate agenda.” Additional initiatives recently introduced include alcohol awareness training for all staff and occupational road risk assessments. There are also plans underway for a driver reward scheme.
