| CORGI opens the door to construction sites for Gas Installers |

CORGI has launched a new passport scheme, which will allow gas installers to demonstrate an up-to-date basic knowledge of health, safety and environmental awareness when entering customer premises and construction sites.
Around 25% of fatalities to workers occur on construction sites, and as a consequence of this, it is becoming increasingly difficult for gas installers to enter work sites on a regular basis without demonstrating their skills in health and safety.
The Health, Safety and Environment Passport Scheme, which was developed to meet the needs of gas installers, is offered as training and assessment consolidated into one day, around the UK, to provide operatives with all the facts and an additional competence that will be displayed on the reverse of the CORGI ID card.
The training and assessment has been accredited through IOSH, however for those who wish to take the assessment only, this is available, but is not IOSH accredited.
As an organisation committed to “leading standards in safety”, CORGI can now provide operatives with the right competencies to ensure they have the sufficient knowledge to practise health and safety at work competently.
CORGI is now able to deliver this course following the acquisition of Bowland Safety Services, an established consultancy specialising in providing health and safety services to businesses in England, Scotland and Wales. This broadens CORGI Services’ sphere of activity from gas expertise to safety, enabling them to provide safety support to a diverse range of customers.
NOTES
1. A CORGI registered operative that successfully passes the CORGI health, safety and environmental training and assessment shows that they have an up-to-date basic knowledge of health, safety and environment awareness. Their existing CORGI ID card would automatically be updated and reissued to include the categories ‘IOSH Working Safely and Site Safety Assessed’. Additionally an IOSH Working Safely Certificate will be issued.
2. A CORGI registered operative that successfully passes the CORGI health, safety and environmental assessment only shows that they have an up-to-date basic knowledge of health, safety and environment awareness. Their existing CORGI ID card would automatically be updated and reissued to include the category ‘Site Safety Assessed’.
3. The Construction (Design and Management) regulations stipulate that organisations must have skilled workers who understand the importance of health and safety and the potential risks of not complying. The consequences if not managed correctly, can be both harmful and costly.
