CORGI, the Council for Registered Gas Installers, recently launched a campaign at the Ideal Home Show to raise awareness of its new ID card.
The card, which is carried by all CORGI registered gas installers, now includes information in braille to help even more gas consumers in the UK to verify the identity and competence of the gas installer they have employed.
The information contained on the ID card in braille will include its unique serial number, the word CORGI and the telephone number for the Customer Services department.
This will enable visually impaired gas consumers to telephone CORGI and check that the installer has the right skills before allowing them to work on gas appliances in their home. All installers must take assessments in each category of work they carry out every five years to remain on the CORGI register and these can be checked by the Customer Services team.
Bob Henry, CORGI’s Chief Executive, said: “The CORGI ID card was originally launched in 1999 to increase consumer confidence in registered gas installers. It is hoped that the addition of braille to the card will help those customers in the UK with a visual impairment to also feel more confident about the installer calling on them.
“We would encourage all consumers to ask to see the ID card before allowing the installer into the house and check both their identity and the certificates of competence that they hold.”
To check an installer’s identity or certificates of competence please call CORGI Customer Services on 01256 372300 or log on to the CORGI website: www.corgi-gas.com
