CORGI will be campaigning to raise awareness of “the silent killer”, carbon monoxide poisoning, this autumn and to further encourage people to always use a CORGI registered gas installer.
The campaign will be launched on 29 September with a gas safety fringe meeting hosted by CORGI at the Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth, when speakers will update MPs on the gas safety issues involved.
An extensive consumer publicity campaign will focus on a series of virtual postcards which will be available free on the CORGI website and are designed to spread the word about CO. Users will be encouraged to send a card to a friend or neighbour and prompt them to always use a CORGI registered gas installer. The cards all have a lighthearted message, followed by the more serious gas safety message. Postcards will also be available in hard copy.
CORGI press officer Linda North said: “While we will be promoting the campaign postcards heavily to the media to encourage consumers to use them, it is also important for CORGI registered installers to support the campaign, and promote gas safety, by sending the virtual postcards to their own personal contacts.”
Colin the Skunk will also be making an appearance in this year’s campaign, following the success of the 2002 Colin the Skunk campaign. Campaign material will be made available to student unions across the country informing students of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty or badly maintained gas appliances and flues. Look out for further campaign details in the October issue of Gas Installer.
