CORGI COUNCIL ENDORSES NEW TRUST

Date: 08/07/05 Author: Eve Cooper

A meeting of the CORGI Council on Wednesday 22nd July, gave resounding support to the proposal to set up the CORGI Trust. The meeting was very well attended and the Council voted by 29 votes to 3, to set up the new corporate structure for CORGI. The decision means that commercial profits from CORGI Services can now be diverted to support a new charity promoting gas safety, to be called the CORGI Trust.

The CORGI Trust will be the sole shareholder of the new CORGI Group. The criteria and gas registration scheme are not affected by the restructuring. Registration fees continue to be ring-fenced in this scheme.

The responsibility for managing the Trust lies with the Trustees, most of which are currently being recruited. The first three trustees were announced at the Council meeting - Nicholas Ward, John Lillicrapp and Mike Thompson. Nicholas Ward has been appointed as Chair of the Trust and has a wide range of experience in the business, public and voluntary sectors. John Lillicrapp is CORGI’s Deputy Chairman and Mike Thompson is CORGI’s Chief Executive. Four independent trustees are still being recruited. Up to 20 trust members will also be appointed. The Members of the Trust will come from a range of backgrounds including gas installers, consumer groups and other organisations with an interest in gas safety.

Nicholas Ward, Chair of the Trust says: “I am thrilled to have been asked to Chair the CORGI Trust. I am certain this will be an exciting role involved in the development of CORGI and the charity to bring about some very real gains in gas safety”.

Mike Thompson, CORGI’s Chief Executive and Trustee says: “The outcome of the Council meeting is tremendous news. I would like to thank the Council for reaching this decision and endorsing such an important change to CORGI and the industry. The restructure presents a solid platform for the development of the CORGI Group and provide a fantastic opportunity for us to further improve gas safety and positively impact the gas industry. The advent of the CORGI Trust will also enable CORGI to work closer with our various stakeholders.”
