A team from UK’s gas safety watchdog CORGI took part in the Three Peaks Challenge recently in aid of the Wessex Neuro Hospital in Southampton. A team of 21 staff from CORGI scaled the highest peaks in England (Scafell - 978m), Scotland (Ben Nevis - 1344m) and Wales (Snowdon - 1085m) all within 24 hours (including driving time).
“Smile4Rich” is supporting the hospital’s fundraising appeal to raise £80,000 to fund the purchase of a specially equipped ambulance that will benefit patients from across the Wessex region. The CORGI team have already raised over £18,000 but are still appealing for more donations. To donate money visit www.justgiving.com/smile4rich3peaks.
CORGI’s General Manager Simon Ayers, works in the Basingstoke office and took part in the challenge. He says: "Around 4 years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumour, the following 18 months of my life will never be forgotten, I actually think myself very lucky to be here and would thank all those wonderful people at the Wessex Neuro for that chance I have been given. Like me, some other people around us may experience the emotions, anger and frustrations that go with a serious illness, whilst our families and friends provide support, comfort and TLC we need the help of the professional medical staff in specialist centres, we need them to be supported and find new cures and methods of treatment".
The team were joined by 18 staff from Computershare, a Bristol-based company who work with CORGI.
