CORGI can investigate complaints about the safety of work undertaken by registered installers and non-registered installers.

Complaints against registered installers

If your complaint is against a CORGI-registered installer you have employed, we will arrange for one of our Inspectors to visit you to examine whether the work complained of has been carried out safely and competently. This inspection is free of charge.

We will ask your permission for the installer who carried out the gas work to attend the inspection. You can refuse to allow the installer back into your home but this means they will not be able to affect the necessary repairs.

If our Inspector is satisfied that safety specifications have not been followed, the installer will be told to correct the work as soon as possible. We will monitor the complaint to ensure this happens.

The installer may also be asked to take appropriate training or have their registration reviewed. An installer who fails to rectify the gas safety defects or take the necessary training may be removed from the register.

Complaints against non-registered installers

Anyone carrying out gas work for gain while unregistered is breaking the law. CORGI does not have any powers of prosecution, but can present information about such work to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). The unregistered installer is then liable for prosecution.

If you suspect that gas work carried out in your property was done by an unregistered installer, we can arrange for an inspection during which our Inspector will advise you of any safety defects and the courses of action you can take.

About our Inspectors

CORGI Inspectors are based throughout the UK and a major part of their role is to carry out inspections of the work undertaken by registered installers. Your installer may ask you if a CORGI Inspector may accompany them to view an installation at your home. There is no cost to you from CORGI for this visit.

CORGI Inspectors carry identity cards that show their photograph and signature. Validation is shown on the reverse. If you have any doubt about an Inspector's credentials, ring CORGI's Customer Service Department on 0870 401 2300 during normal office hours.
