From 1st of April 2005 it will be a legal requirement in England and Wales for the relevant Local Authority Building Control to be notified of the installation or exchange of any heat producing appliance and associated fittings or services served by the appliance, within a residential dwelling.

Under Gas Work Notification, installers are required to notify CORGI of the installation and exchange of all gas appliances within residential dwellings. For definitions, please refer to the jargon buster. If installers ‘Opt in' to Part J and Part L under the Gas Registration Scheme, CORGI will notify Local Building Control of relevant work that falls within the scope of Part J and Part L of Building Regulations.

Compliance with Gas Work Notification will cover the scope of Building Regulations for relevant work under Part J (Gas appliance) and Part L (Heating services).
